Where is the best place to take a headshot?

The best place to take professional looking Headshots is in a studio with large windows. The reason is because of he natural light they give and the shield from inclement weather.

When you shoot outdoors, you get great natural light but if it's raining, you won't have good looking pictures, especially since you'll be trying to cover the camera from the rain.

On the other hand, shooting indoor Headshots without natural light is not going to work either because you'll end up having subjects that look too posed, like a high school graduation shot. Remember that the key to a great headshot is naturalness.

I recommend finding yourself a room with big windows and setting up some nice backgrounds. Then use this location as a backup place if the outdoor weather is bad. You'll get the best of both worlds and every headshot client you have will be satisfied!

Professional Headshots in NYC

What defines a truly professional headshot? Is there a difference? There most certainly is, especially if you're an actor. Remember that actors have a much harder time getting cheap headshots because the chance of them finding good ones is extremely low.

So what is it exactly that defines a professional headshot? How can you tell the difference between that kind and the kind you get from an amateur headshot photographer?

Well, truthfully, everything. To get a professional headshot photographer to take your picture, they will have to know all about lighting, color, composition, lens, aperture, focal length, color temperature, clothing, makeup, hair, character, look, emotion, and expression. Not to mention they will have to be able to snap the shutter at the precise moment when it all comes together.

If you are planning on hiring a professional headshot photographer, look them up and be sure they have good reviews. You don't want to pay even $50 if your headshot is going to look crappy.

Remember that just because someone says they are a professional headshot photographer doesn't mean they really are.
